  New Mayor

WEATHER KIND TO HYNDBURN'S NEW MAYOR

New Mayor of Hyndburn, Councillor Peter Britcliffe took up his post on Saturday, May 13th and after being inducted into the position at a meeting in Council Chambers, joined the gathering outside Accrington Town Hall before the mayoral procession.

The procession, which started outside Accrington Town Hall, was led by the Accrington Pipe Band, whose leader proffered a salute as they passed the Mayoral party, before leading them in the procession to St James’ Church. They were closely followed by members of The British Legion, and other local groups. The mayor and his party followed and preceded other dignitaries past and present. The procession was a short one and the party was led into the church grounds by the British Legion contingent.

The weather, which had been pretty wet earlier in the day, with promise of more rain, held fair for the duration of the Procession and the journey back the Town Hall. Councillor Britcliffe was accompanied by his Mayoress, daughter Sara who at the age of 21 is Hyndburn’s youngest ever incumbent of that title and his son Dominic, who will be his consort. The entourage, which included new LCC council members after the recent election, walked behind the Macebearer, Civic Attendant Jayne Carmody, who led the mayoral group. Councillor Britcliffe succeeds outgoing mayor, Councillor Tim O’Kane who was also in attendance.

After returning from the church ceremony the new Mayor welcomed invited guests back to his Parlour in the Town Hall.
